Estebon Pastoino uses photo trickery to transform our view / mindset of the work.

He has created the illusion that it this a model, that it isn’t real and that it is a dream. He has taken an element of reality out of what we see and so our opinion of the town changes to one of hope, beauty, potential and of mysticism.
The technique he used is tilt-shift which changes the plane of focus and the angle at which the shot is taken. It looks like the subject is small, because when you shoot close to something it has a shallow depth of field. He also used a kite to hang his camera at this unrealistic height. This is a huge part of getting this shot right because it adds to the misleading evidence that it isn’t real.
His work is very focused on visual perception - how we see things and what we believe to be true, how we qualify something to be true/ real, and how we go on to think about the subject once we have decided whether it is real or not.
This piece has the ability to transform people’s ideas and thoughts on a particular subject. This is a great quality of his work and one which I wish to imitate in my own work. His technique is also inspiring because of the way in which he manipulates form and 3d, and by reducing the depth of field he is able to focus our attention on one object in such a busy landscape. These two techniques are very powerful and have inspired me to produce them in my own work.
